| Description |
The main event happens on Saturday, August 11. The 2012 Toledo Pride Parade will step off in Downtown Toledo at 12pm. This year’s grand marshals are Toledo mayor Michael Bell, who signed legislation earlier this summer which extends health benefits to the domestic partners of city employees and Jennifer Tyrrell, a Bridgeport, Ohio mother who has recently been in the national spotlight for taking on the Boy Scouts of America’s policy which bans LGBT individuals from participating. Immediately following the parade, the fun starts in Levis Square. Toledo Pride is pleased to be hosting Support Marriage Equality in Ohio, as they hold a commitment ceremony for 10 wonderful couples on our main stage. Visit the Community Connections event from 1-7pm to shop wonderful vendors and chat with various local community organizations. ARC Ohio, the Lucas County Department of Health and the University of Toledo Medical Center will also be on-hand, offering free, confidential HIV testing. The live entertainment kicks up immediately following the Support Marriage Equality in Ohio commitment ceremony, with favorite local acts and two fabulous headliners. During the day, enjoy music from great bands and artists like Arctic Clam, DJ Kenneth Thomas, Wideband Network and more. At 9pm, welcome Spearz, an all-male Britney Spears cover band who recently opened for Kelly Rowland at Twin Cities Pride in Minneapolis. Following Spearz, the Drag Extravaganza will wrap up the night, featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 contestant Mystique Summers along with local performers. |
