Nutcracker takes Valentine Stage

The Ballet Theater of Toledo’s performance is in its 10th year and will take place at the Valentine Theatre for the 8th year in a row. This family-friendly ballet is directed by Nigel Burgoine, will be accompanied by the Ballet Theater of Toledo Orchestra and the Masterworks Chorale, and features 100 dancers from the company. The performance also includes guest artists from the Cincinnati Ballet and Louisville Ballet in the leading roles. Burgoine’s wife, Anne Marie Gertz, will be dancing in The Nutcracker for the 45th year in a row.

Local celebrities like Robert Shields of Channel 11 will be dancing in the party scene. Tony Geftos from Channel 13 will be playing the role of Mother Ginger in the Friday and Sunday performances, and Rick Wudel from 101.5 FM (The River) will be appearing as Mother Ginger in the Saturday performance. Fun extras include a white Pyrenees dog named Ms. Gracie who appears in Clara’s dream, a surprise guest appearance (hint: a cold character who won’t ‘let it go’), and a raffle gift package of sought-after Barbie dolls.

There will be a special needs and assisted-living show for $10 at 2pm, Friday, November 28. The other performances occur at 7pm Friday, November 28, 7pm Saturday, November 29 and 2pm Sunday, November 30 at the Valentine Theatre.
