A giant green tour bus is coming to the area, but that doesn't mean Green Day is playing Toledo. It means healthy sustainable food is getting some shine on the Eat Well Guided Tour.

A little over a month ago, members of Sustainable Table, a national nonprofit organization that sponsors organic food education, jumped in a green bus to travel around the country learning about local farmer's markets and businesses that support organic foods. The goal is to finish the cross-country trek at Randall's Island in New York at the Farm Aid Concert on September 9. A blog of their journey has been kept on the website www.sustainabletable.org/roadtrip.

The bus will make stops in Ann Arbor and Tiffin next week to see how Michigan and Northwest Ohio are working towards a gastronomically friendly diet. On Saturrday, September 1, the bus will arrive in Ann Arbor beginning at Zingerman's Delicatessen for a lunch date, followed by a tours of the farmer's market, community gardens and Agrarian Adventure school garden project.

At 7 p.m., Eat Well continues its search for the best pie in the country by hosting Pie Lovers Unite, a pie festival at the Ypsilanti Women's Literary Club. The public is invited to bring their homemade pies and see how they stand up to the rest of the country. The event will be co-hosted by Slow Food Huron Valley and Growing Hope. Amanda Edmonds, executive director of Growing Hope, has a hunch that there will be a lot of berry flavored pies, due to it being berry season.

"This is about celebrating food traditions," Edmonds said. "People of every income level and every background have such diversity in their food and we liked the idea of people from wherever in Michigan bringing their pies and traditions to celebrate with us."

On Sunday, September 2 the tour travels to Tiffin for a guided tour of the Seeds of Hope Farm at noon. The farm, part of the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, produces chemical-free vegetables, herbs, flowers and eggs. After that, a soup and salad luncheon will be made from produce grown on the farm by organic and sustainable methods. The pie search will continue as pies will be prepared by an Amish baker in Southern Ohio. The day will conclude with a hay-ride style tour of the facility and gardens.
