Swig/Friday, June 4
Jason LaPorte has two loves—his new bride, and his guitar—just don’t make him pick between the acoustic or the electric. While people always come first (isn’t that why musicians write songs to begin with?) it’s LaPorte’s musical projects that occupy his free time. Playing guitar publicly since high school, LaPorte performs as a solo artist, and in a trio with bassist Dan Brenner and percussionist Andrew Smith. Blending an array of genres, from reggae, blues and jazz to hip hop and indie rock, LaPorte describes his sound as “organic-indie-roots music.” As a singer-songwriter, LaPorte draws inspiration from musicians like Ben Harper and John Mayer, while embracing his own groove. The summer of 2010 is full of Jason LaPorte performances as he focuses on musical style, his increasing online presence, and finishing some recordings—both solo and with his trio. He performs monthly at Swig Bar (219 Louisiana Ave., Perrysburg), the next show is Friday, June 4. Catch the Jason LaPorte Trio Thursday, May 27 at Mickey Finn’s. LaPorte opens for The Verve Pipe on Saturday, June 5 at Headliners. For more info, www.myspace.com/jasonlaporte.
