Pasta-a-plenty
Pasta Fina slings delicious Italian cuisine
published October 31st 2007
In the center of an unassuming strip plaza at the corner of Heatherdowns and Perrysburg-Holland Road, Pasta Fina waits patiently for it’s guests. A greeting in the parking lot is the essence of garlic wafting from the kitchen from a fan strategically placed above the door. Entering the doorway we were greeted by the warm and open kitchen with a staff bustling to prepare made-to-order sauces and other specialties.
Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, impressively reciting the elements of the antipasto appetizer platter without skipping a beat.
The atmosphere is pleasant though not overdone. As an small Italian restaurant you might find in bigger cities, the vinyl tablecloths and understated wall hangings were welcome. The dining room was nicely disguised from a strip mall location with simple décor including a number of booths with warm jewel toned upholstery.
But then there is the food, wit pasta-a-plenty, giving rise to the name. Combinations accompanied by chicken and a variety of seafoods are available, as well as a number of different pasta varieties accompanied with a house specialty “mix and match” section of a variety of sauces. We tried the carbonara and the pomodoro, all excellent and cooked to order. Large portions and lightning-fast service added to this experience.
And what about steaks? They have the classic flat-iron, the butt-end of the sirloin prepared in a number of variations, all thick and juicy.
Also, a wide variety of pizzas are available, including a number of inventive house special varieties. We ordered off of the specials menu, which I found to be bold and adventurous. The brazed (that’s how they spelled it) lamb shank and the grilled veal chop were both delicious. The swordfish picata looked delicious as well.
The simplicity is a hallmark for Pasta Fina. Their simple selection of wines was undaunting with varieties of whites, rosés, and reds, all by the glass. Accompanied by a full bar, this small venue packs a punch.
We couldn’t leave without trying several of the homemade desserts. The Tiramisu and the homemade cannoli were delicious. The cool tang of the cheese filling mixed with the sweetness of the cream made the cannoli, which was shared by our table, a short-lived adornment.
And the best surprise, when the bill came for our party of four including wine, appetizers, and desserts, we were pleasantly surprised by how little it was.
The bill may be small, bu Pasta Fina provides a decidedly big dining experience.
